myling + yem: downtown los angeles engagement

“hey, soul sister”

Myling + Yem were set up on a blind date by their brothers (not the same brothers…well you know what I mean!). A spring roll later (or maybe two) at Brodard Restaurant (my Viet people know how yummy those rolls are) and the rest is history and of course, here for you to see :).

This is one sexy, stylish and smart couple. And when they weren’t kissing, they kept me laughing during shoot. I think they have been stalking my blog (who doesn’t?!), because they knew the #1 way to my heart: good food. We continued the laughs over the most.delicious.burgers.ever. at Father’s Office after the shoot. As I took every savory bite of the burger, I kept telling myself how lucky I am to share such good times with good people and never really feel like it’s work…

I am super excited for their wedding in just 10 days!!!!!

Our first stop was the famous Bradbury Building in downtown Los Angeles, which is also the the location of one of my all time favorite engagement sessions. It has been 2 years since I last shot here so I was happy when Myling + Yem requested this location. Even though we couldn’t get full access to the building, I think we made the most of this architectural gem:

Myling’s hair & makeup was flawlessly done by Angie Pham who will also be doing Myling’s hair & makeup for the wedding day!

And then we ventured to the dark side – the USC campus. There was surprisingly gorgeous light – even at the dark side…

And after a quick ice cream break (wasn’t my idea this time but I didn’t complain either :)), we headed back to the non-dark side and quick wardrobe re-change for some gorgeous rooftop photos:

You don’t want to see the behind-the-scene pics of how I captured this photo…or do you??? All I remember Yem saying was “I didn’t sign a contract for a threesome…”….hmmm…

This last picture in the bottom right was one of my favorites of the day. For the first time, I actually blushed while taking a photo.

Your photos are amazing Kim! πŸ™‚
I’ve always dreamt of the idea of getting married one day, but at one point I completely gave up on the idea. You photographed my cousin’s wedding, and that is how I was introduced to your work. Whenever I feel down, I look at your photos and they give me hope. I want to have that loving gaze that all your couples have some day! I love your work! I always find myself in an awe feeling looking at your new photos. Hopefully when I get married, you won’t be too pricey and I can hire you at my photographer! πŸ™‚
